Tacet Engineering Limited
is an acoustics & vibration consulting engineering firm specializing in
industrial noise and structural vibration control. Incorporated in 1979, Tacet
provides expertise in measurement, analysis and design of noise and vibration
control hardware. Over the years, Tacet has been involved in numerous
successful projects and research initiatives in the areas of industrial noise
and structural vibration control.
To provide the often unique
capabilities required, Tacet has developed many specialized tools utilizing
computer based data acquisition and signal processing technology (See
publications).
Tacet continues to work
closely with the power generation industry to diagnose and resolve noise
problems associated with gas turbine silencing. Tacet is one of the leaders in
North America in the area of in situ turbine induct exhaust sound pressure
measurements (in order to estimate induct sound power levels).
Structural vibration is
another area in which Tacet has active over the years designing and testing
“Tuned Mass Dampers” (TMD’s) to control floor vibrations and building
sway. Our recent project involved the design and testing of Tuned Mass Dampers
(TMD’s) for the west grandstand of the newly renovated Soldier Field stadium in
Chicago as well as a 64-channel Permanent Vibration Monitoring System.

present clients include Higgott-Kane Industrial Noise Controls Ltd., Foster
Wheeler Corporation, Florida Power & Light, General Motors Canada, Toronto
Transit Commission, Trans-Canada Pipelines, Siemens-Westinghouse, Thornton-Tomessetti
Engineers, and Taylor Devices.
